Ahhh….Albion!

Our week stay in Albion has gone by much too quickly. We started our week with lunch in Healdsburg with Jeff, Becky and Reilly Kreutz (Abbie had to work…ugh!) and a little shopping. Carl Munganast warned us that we were heading into “high cotton” territory and when I admired a sweater priced at $1,650 (marked down from $1,800!!) I knew exactly what he meant! Lunch was in our price range.

The house we are staying in sits on a bluff above the Pacific Ocean and a cove away from the Albion River. Like all rentals, it has is quirks. The owner left laminated rules and instructions about (nearly) everything, but also hospitably left a large binder full of brochures and information about what to do and where to eat. We mostly loved just being in the house and enjoying the view!

Our pals Barbara and Rex Ray (neighbors of ours when we lived in the Mies Vander Rohe building on Lake Shore Drive) joined us for some days which was super since we hadn’t seen them in ages.

Explored many spots along the rugged Mendocinio coast.

One of our trips was to Glass Beach where beachcombers prowl to collect sea-sanded pieces of glass. There used to be a bottle manufacturer nearby and the story goes that one of their ships sank nearby. We did a little beachcombing ourselves and the results were a little disappointing. The bottle cap from a small water gives you an idea of the size of treasures we found. But I did find an intact shell!

But the scenery was gorgeous in any direction you looked!

The wild flowers and restaurant flower pots were also a treat. Beautiful blooms obviously thrive in this coastal climate.

We did a little (emphasis on little) cooking too! Cliff made blueberry scones one morning. And manned the grill for lemon pepper salmon one night. Barb and I did our share, but no one was taking pictures!

Alas, a little problem did arise. A flat tire on the Rays car. Fortunately discovered the day before their departure date and solved with a call to triple A and the services of a very nice tire shop in Mendocino. Unfortunately, they had to get a new tire as the puncture was in the tire sidewall:-(

And the wild life made us feel right at home! Hello Bucky!

The normal inversion layer from the ocean that creates VERY gray mornings usually relented on our next to last day. The only fog that morning hovered over the nearby Albion River. Photo below will give you an idea of how close we were to the river.
